Fast Shimmer: A modulated reverb that quickly decays away into an endlessly pitch shifting tail.There are 6 reverb algorithms in the Z-DSP Shimmer cart, arranged in order of complexity: The algorithms are customized to work with the Tiptop Audio Z-DSP Eurorack module. The Z-DSP Shimmer cartridge has 8 original algorithms, designed to combine lush reverberation with multiple voices of pitch shifting, to create ethereal pads, rich chordal textures, dissonant clouds of sound, and a variety of other sounds that are perfect for electronic music. ValhallaShimmer had single and dual pitch shifting, while the Z-DSP cart has single, dual, triple and quad pitch shifting modes. The Z-DSP Shimmer cart has more variety than the plugin.
I use some randomization tricks in the ValhallaShimmer plugin to avoid metallic coloration, and these tricks weren't possible on the Z-DSP, so I figured out some new tricks. The pitch shifting had to be changed in the Z-DSP Shimmer cart. I really like the results of this modulation technique (I used a similar version in the ValhallaPlate plugin). This takes advantage of the built-in LFOs found in the Z-DSP.

However, I've learned a lot of tricks since I released ValhallaShimmer in 2010, so the simplified Z-DSP algorithms have a similar echo density as the plugin version. The algorithms in the Z-DSP Shimmer cart were simplified, compared to the ValhallaShimmer versions.Everything on the Z-DSP had to be coded from scratch. The Z-DSP Shimmer cart was based on the ValhallaShimmer algorithms, but with a LOT of changes made in order to get things running on the FV-1 DSP used in the Z-DSP. Sean could probably be a lot more specific. So they will be different, and it sounds like there are a handful of programs that shoot for different sounds so you probably will have a wider palette than you might with the Shimmer plugin alone. However, how "good" something sounds has more to do with how good the algorithms are rather with how many numbers your processor can crunch. My understanding is that these are coded from the ground up for the Spin FV-1 which is an old-school DSP chip that's considerably more limited than something you could put into a plugin.
